Abstract:In order to improve the vibration attenuation performance of the variable mass dynamic vibration absorber (DVA),a control strategy based on fuzzy logic is investigated in this paper. The phase difference between the vibration signals of the variable mass DVA and the primary system is used to check whether the natural frequency of the DVA is equal to the excitation frequency. When the absorber is untuned,a designed fuzzy logic control rule is applied to change the mass of the variable mass DVA so that the absorber natural frequency changes to match the excitation frequency of the primary system. Numerical simulations and experiments are conducted to test the performance of the control strategy, both results show that the designed fuzzy logic control strategy can adjust the mass of the DVA to make the absorber natural frequency matching the excitation frequency of the primary system. Hence the variable mass DVA is always tuned,and can significantly suppress the vibration of the primary system in a broadband. The control strategy is useful for engineering application of the variable mass DVA.
