To locate impact force more conveniently and accurately, the directivit y behavior of rectangular piezoelectric sensors is studied, and a novel method f or impact location using rectangular piezoelectric rosettes is proposed based on resistance strain rosettes principle. The sensor’s response amplitude is only needed to test according to resistance strain rosettes principle; one rectangula r piezoelectric rosette can be used to determine the direction of impact, so the impact will be located using two rectangular piezoelectric rosettes. Experiment al verification is performed on an aluminum plate, the mean error between theory location and impact source is 36cm. The accuracy of identification is suit fo r engineering applications.
