Abstract:The transverse vibration of the axially travelling web has been the main quality and productivity limiting factor in the roll-to-roll manufacturing. The recent advances of the transverse vibration of travelling web are detailedly introduced in this paper. Firstly, the modeling methods of transverse vibration are discussed. Taking the Hamilton principle as example, the governing equations of motion are derived. The analytical method and numerical method are used to solve the governing equations and compute the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The effects of the tension, speed, material parameter, intermediate support and surrounding on the characteristics of free vibration and stability of the travelling web are investigated.The fluctuations of tension and travelling speed are considered to study the parametric vibration. The passive control method and active control method are introduced.Combining the longitudinal tension control and lateral position control,the engineering applications of transverse vibration control in the roll to roll manufacturing are discussed. Finally, the key problems need to be further studied for the transverse vibration of the travelling web are forecasted in this paper.
